Having turned your device on and connected to the internet we need to look in some more detail at your web browser:
- Samsung have their own browser
- Some devices have Google’s Chrome installed
- There’s also a version of Firefox for android
- Another popular browser is called Dolphin
The Samsung browser
the Tabs at the top of the browser allow you to open multiple windows/web pages
recents at the bottom of the screen
favourites/bookmarks
- edit bookmarks
- create a folder
- move favourites into the folder
- change the order of the favourites
- delete a favourite
- delete a folder
- add the page as a bookmark
- change how the bookmarks look
History
- most visited
- older
- bookmark a previously visited page
- remove a single page from history
- clear history
Saved Pages
will appear here if you have previously saved them for offline reading
Menu
incognito means that within that tab no history of what you have looked at will be saved
go live – only appears if you are looking at an offline page – it takes you to the internet version of the page
Settings
General
- set homepage
- autofill enables forms to be completed automatically
- autofill text enables you to enter the fields for auto completion/fill
Privacy and Security
- the cache is the area of memory in the tablet which hods information previously viewed, so enabling web pages to appear to laod quicker
- security warnings can be flagged if the domain/website visited is displaying symptoms which may be regarded as unsafe, such as a site that does not use encryption/https when collecting financial or personal details from you
- cookies are tiny files which are downloaded onto your device which keep a record of how you have sued a particular website, so enabling a beeter expereince based on previous visits on your return
- remembering form data is a way of speeding up entry of data if you revisit particular sites often
- enabling location allows websites to query your device for locationinformation which is obtained through your ISP
- remembering passwords links the password to the web address
- A notification allows alerting the user outside the context of a web page of an occurrence, such as the delivery of email.
Accessibility for visual enhancements
Advanced offers a number of features including the blocking of pop ups which may occassionally need to be disabled
bandwidth managemnt can be an issue where internet access is limited
labs allow the app to be used in a different manner
Lock screen
Change settings for the locked screen.
- Screen lock: Activate the screen lock feature. The following options may vary depending on the screen lock feature selected.
- Multiple widgets: Set the device to allow use of widgets on the locked screen.
- Lock screen widgets: Change the settings for the locked screen. These settings are applied only when you set the swipe lock option.
– –Clock or personal message: Set the device to show a clock or personal message on the locked screen. The following options may vary, depending on your selection.
For a personal message:
– –Edit personal message: Edit the personal message.
For a clock:
– –Clock size: Change the size of the clock.
– –Show date: Set the device to show the date with the clock.
– –Owner information: Enter your information that is shown with the clock.
- Shortcuts: Set the device to show and edit application shortcuts on the locked screen.
This feature may not be available depending on the region or service provider.
- Unlock effect: Select an effect when you unlock the screen.
- Help text: Set the device to show the help text on the locked screen.
- Wake up in lock screen: Set the device to recognise your wake up command when the screen is locked.
- Set wake-up command: Set a wake up command to launchS Voice or perform a specified function.
