Facebook update to policies

It’s the season for data security and Facebook is almost at the head of the leaderboard.  If you use Facebook you will recently have been asked to agree new terms in order to continue to use Facebook.  If, like many you have simply agreed, we have a transcript of what you agreed or didn’t agree to that you can download, so you can actually take in what they are saying.

The agreement comes as a pop up when you log into Facebbook (most of you will already have done this) entitled Facebook Manage Data Settings  followed by the option to manage the settings or accept and continue.

When you Accept and Continue you move on to control whether we use data from partners to show you ads but whichever option you choose you’ll still see ads.

Once you have accepted that you will see ads in some form or other, you get moved onto the option for Facebook to use face recognition on your face.  They say it’s to stop your face being (ab)used (in vain…).  You can choose not to allow Facebook to recognise you.  If you do allow facial recognition, Facebook will tke your photo and check it against all Facebook photos.  They say that if they find any matches they will check with you to see if you want to be tagged into that photo.  Irrecpective, they will have linked that photo to you… they do not say that they will forget that information.

Finally you have to accept Facebook’s updated Terms or delte your account!

Download all the words here if you want to read them!  Please note that these are provided to help people to remember what they may have agreed to.  The words were cut and pasted from the pop-ups that appeared when logging into a Facebook Account.  No responsibility is accepted for any inaccuracies or exclusions.
