Backing up your tablet

A backup is a copy of your information normally held in a different place to where that information is normally held.

In settings, choose backup and reset.  Make sure the relevant boxes are ticked.

If you have a Google account you can sync(hronise) your contacts, gmail inbox and calendar to your internet account.   To check if this is happening;

  1. choose settings
  2. accounts.
  3. tap onyour gmail account.
  4. Tap on sync to see what you are sync(ing) and whether it is up to date.
  5. Tapping on Google plus will show you extra settings which may include backing up photos and videos to your account.

To double check, log in to your Google account online and check that the information from your tablet is there.  You will also find all your apps in the play store;  tap on the apps icon (the nine tiny squares on the top right), choose Google Play, tap on apps, my apps.

Some items such as documents may not be automatically synced.  These may need to be copied to an SD card or shared to another platform such as dropbox or google drive.  Often you need a sync app for this to work effectively (there are many!)

The manual option

The easiest way to make sure you have a copy of everything is to plug you device into a computer (through USB), choose to explore the device and then copy relevant information (data, not apps) on to your computer ready for re-installation on your next device (music, movies, documents etc.).
