The desktop and Apps

When you first log into your tablet you are presented with a desktop.  It will have a number of Apps on it probably in 2 different areas.  In the main area the apps a screen specific and in the second area (normally at the bottom) the apps are visible on all the different screens (sometimes called the quick access dock).

Each App is represented by an icon or image depicting what the App is about.  There will be a descriptive word or name under the icon as well.  Not all Apps are visible on the desktop.  You cn rearrange them at leisure.

To  create a folder on your desktop, long press on the Home screen, select Folder, and then give it a name. Now you can press, hold, and drag apps into the new folder.

Additionally you can place widgets on your screens.  In Android, the word widget is a generic term for a bit of self-contained code that displays a program, or a piece of a program, that is also (usually) a shortcut to a larger application.

Apps either free or paid for can be downloaded from the Apps (or Play) store.  Apps can also be downloaded elsewhere (beware).  Samsung have their own App store.
