In January we looked briefly at settings and you should all have received a printout of the settings and crib-sheet. However, what do they actually do? We are going to make changes to see what happens.
1: WiFi
How many networks can you see? What are you seeing?
what is WiFi Direct and How to use it? It works best with similar devices.
Choose Settings – what do they do?
What is WPS?
2: Bluetooth
What is pairing? Pair with your neighbour? What are the numbers for? What can bluetooth be used for? Try sharing a file.
What other settings can you adjust in bluetooth
3 Data Usage
Looking at the data you can see which apps use most. What happens when you adjust the timespan? How much data has been downloaded today?
What are the options?
What are data hotspots?
4 More settings
What are nearby devices? What do they allow you to do? What settings can you then change?
5 Blocking Mode
Note the time constraints
6 Hands Free Mode
integrates with S Voice Hands Free
7 Sound
These options enable different sounds to be played for different events. Try some different sounds.
How to record your own sound… download an app.
But can you use it here to change sounds… NO unless you “root” your device…
8 Display
Wallpaper – is easy to set
Note the notification panel, timeout and smart screen
Does legibility work?
9 Storage
Give the device a moment and see how it is being used.
What does it all mean?
10 Power Saving Mode
Learn about power saving
11 Battery
See what uses up the battery power. What can you do to conserve power?
12 Application Manager
swipe across the top
How are the apps ordered at the moment? Re-order the apps
Reset the app preferences. What does this mean?
Find out more about the apps – should some of them be uninstalled?
Can you uninstall all the apps?
What happens if you uninstall one you want back later?
13 Default apps
This is not a part on Android and is an added extra.
More details on settings follows next week
