Polaris Cloud

Polaris Office, which is part of Samsung is embedded in the version of Android on the Galaxy.  In the case of the Galaxy Tab 3 it is version 4 of the software.  However, version 5 is now out there is the version which offers free cloud storage (albeit limited).  Hop over to the Play store and search for Polaris Office + PDF (which is version 5).

When you install it (version 5) it has a different icon than version 4 (folders with no W), so you will need to get rid of version 4.  To do so, go to application manager under settings and tap the correct version. Disable the app and then attempt to uninstall it.  You will get messages but don’t worry.  You will also lose existing data created in Polaris – so make sure you have a copy of anything important.  The app although disabled is actually still on your phone.

Now go to the new version of Polaris, it will ask you to register using your default gmail address.  Do so and it may then ask you to set up a password so that you can log in from other devices.  Use the standard one.  Now, anything stored in my document will be synced to the cloud account.  On the menu there is the option to force a sync.

If you want to pick up your files from elsewhere, you can log in to the Polaris Cloud at https://www.polarisoffice.com/view/login

Here you can manage your documents and download Polaris for your home computer as well, but BEWARE!!!

Polaris Office’s new cloud option wants your contacts

It would appear that Samsung reserve the right to grab all your contacts and then do things with them.  This may change as time goes by, but it is not recommended that you use this feature on a personal tablet which has all your contacts at this time.

On a personal device it might be better to choose the bottom menu item which is add Cloud and add an account such as Google Drive.

Since Polaris office has to be purchased on the iPad, it might be better to consider alternative options such as Microsoft Office:

Or the iPad/Mac alternative, iWork:
