Managing your displays

apps iconAll your apps are “held” under the Apps icon.  On tapping it you will see a list of all the active apps.  There may be more that one screen of apps (indicated  by the grey/white blocks at the bottom of the screen).  At the top of your screen will be a second tab called widgets (may not be there on later versions of Android – to see them simply tap on a empty area of your home screen).  Often the widgets have some numbers above/beside them which indicate how many “blocks” of the screen theywill take up.  You may have more than one version of the same widget taking up different amounts of room.  You may also have a down arrow on the right hand side of your screen (at the top) which allows you to see only the apps that you have downloaded.

To place an app or a widget on your home screen just tap and hold the item unitl the homescreen appears.  You can then drag the item to the appropriate position on the appropriate screen.

You can also manage the screens in your apps repository.  With it open tap the menu key and choose edit.  You can then drag apps between screens.  Widgets cannot be edited in the same way.

In the repository and on the home screen it is possible to create a number of folders into which apps cn be placed. On a home screen press and hold a blank area.  You can then choose folder and you are prompted for a name.  The folder is empty until you put apps inside it when the icon will change to reflect the icons placed inside it.  Binning a folder also bins its contents.

We will need to ensure that the most relevant apps are placed on our first home page.  Note the line of icons at the bottom of the screen which appear on every home screen.  These can alos be changed
