Introducing tablets

A tablet is really a touchscreen computer but it might also be a mobile phone.

This website has many informative links and can be searched from the search button at the top of the page.  Over the years we have covered most subjects you can imagine!

We will also use some specific apps and look at playstore.

Exercise:

The anatomy of your tablet:

  1. take it out of its case
  2. where are all the buttons and slots?
  3. What do they do?
  4. are there any covered slots?
  5. Where are the loudspeakers?
  6. Where is the battery?
  7. Are there any buttons of the screen itself?

Google maps: using gestures on the map.

  1. Tap to “click”, select, or open something on your device, like a button or an app
  2. Tap and hold to occasionally access other options (think of this as “right-clicking”)
  3. Drag to scroll up and down, left and right, or any other direction on the screen
  4. Swipe left or right to “flip through” things, like pages on the Home screen, photos, or pages in an e-book
  5. Double-tap to zoom in or out in certain apps, like Maps or Chrome
  6. Pinch (i.e., open or close your thumb and forefinger) to zoom in or out almost anywhere

Taking apps off the screen:

  1. long press on an icon on the screen concerned
  2. then drag the icon to the wastebin

Using the playstore – part 1: we are simply going to search for and install some apps today.

  1. open the Google Play Store
  2. In the search area at the top of the screen type in the name of the app to be installed: Finger touchscreen training
  3. Read the information on it
  4. Install in on your tablet
  5. try it out and give your comments
  6. make sure your friends try it as well!
